Blue Red Curtains

Color coordinating blue red curtains for a look of harmony.

Curtains can turn your windows into a focal point in a room; the first thing in the room that invites the attention of guests. You can transform a plain and boring room into an elegant and rich space just by adding a bright window dressing. Finding the right color and coordinating it with the other design elements in the room is the most important task in selecting curtains. Some colors can make your room look dull while some others will light up and lend a touch of class and style even to an ordinary looking room. An eye-catching pattern or color can transform the entire look and feel of a room. Different colors can bring different moods and themes. Hence, it is essential to know before what theme and appeal you want for your room and how you want to achieve a look of perfect harmony among the various decorative elements in the room.

You can dress up your window in one color, and match it with another element in the room having the same color. For example, if your room has a blue paint or blue furnishing like a rug or cushion, you can use blue curtains for the windows. There is yet another method that makes use of more than one color in decorating the whole room. Instead of depending on only one color to adorn the room, you can use two or three different but coordinating colors to achieve a more colorful and experimental look and feel. For instance, if your room has pastel shades of paint, use one or two darker colors for furniture or other design elements. You can then hang a curtain that has at least one of the darker colors used in the room.

If we take the example of the blue room we have mentioned before, you may paint the room in light blue; use red cushions for the couch; and hang either blue or red curtains or a blue red curtain to get a complementary look. The red in the curtains can either be floral pattern in a blue fabric or two separate curtains of two different fabrics in two layers. Layered curtains are more flexible as they can be drawn depending on which color you want to dominate on a particular day or to match a design theme.

Color coordination is not easily achieved. You have to think of the colors even before you have painted the walls or bought the furniture. Or, if you already have painted and furnished your rooms and just need to add curtains to make the decoration complete, take a mental picture of the room or take a real picture with your camera. Try different shades for the curtains and imagine how they will look in that room.
